Megan Chalfant an American visual artist living in southern France. She makes paintings in oil on canvas or lightweight matte board, and drawings, primarily in graphite, pen, and ink on paper.

Her work is created predominantly from direct observation of the visible world, as well as studies from works of the masters across many time periods and traditions. She paints in single sessions of several hours in order to pursue a sense of life and vigor in her touch, always trying to be attentive to the light and luminosity of the work, that it might contain something of a unified whole in and of itself, from beginning to end.

Through her paintings she explores the expression of formal elements—particularly color, brushstroke, line and rhythm—and how their corresponding relationships develop meaning and create interior sensations of luminosity, movement, mystery, stillness and eternity.

Megan has lived and worked in Indiana, Alaska, Colorado, and California. Her current home in the south of France permits her to discover Europe where she is as thrilled to get to experience the world through painting as she was in the States.
